Trustees approve ordinances, police policy changes
By AMIE CATO-REMER Editor

The Gore Board of Trustees addressed a full agenda during their regular monthly meeting on May 20, approving several ordinances and updates aimed at refining local government operations and improving public amenities.

A significant portion of the evening’s business focused on updates to the town’s governing documents. The board unanimously approved Ordinance No. 05-20-2025-1, which updates the Gore Code of Ordinances. The ordinance was also passed as an emergency measure to expedite its implementation. In addition, the board adopted Resolution 05-20-2025-1 to formalize the changes.

The trustees also approved a new policy for the Gore Police Department regarding final paychecks and equipment returns, enhancing accountability during employee transitions. Vice-Mayor Larry Pack and Trustee Joni Couch led the motions for these measures, which passed unanimously.

In a move to ensure continued legal oversight, the board voted to renew the contract of Municipal Judge Jeremy Hamby.

Another major decision was the approval of a $15,200 quote from D&D Sports Courts for painting the town’s pickleball court, signaling ongoing investment in recreational infrastructure.

Mayor Robin Henry commended the community turnout for a recent yard-mowing event that aided four local families.

She also provided updates on the sidewalk project, noting meetings with ODOT and engineers to review budgets and design plans. In the wake of a recent storm, she mentioned the potential organization of a volunteer cleanup effort. The police chief ’s report, delivered by Clerk Lisa Settlemyre, cited 15 traffic stops and 40 service calls in April. Fire Chief Justin Ohl reported a total of 43 calls for May, including 26 medical emergencies and one structure fire. He expressed pride in the department’s effective response to the fire incident.

The regular Board of Trustees meeting adjourned at 6:14 p.m., immediately followed by the Gore Public Works Authority (GPWA) meeting.

During the GPWA session, which lasted just three minutes, trustees approved April’s minutes, financial reports and purchase orders. An amendment to an engineering services agreement, initially approved in November 2023, was also greenlit.

GPWA Administrator Jeremy Lane reported a 7 percent water loss for the month, along with three water leaks, 10 water locates and 24 work orders.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
