Cherokee artwork sought to enhance tribal facilities in Tahlequah, Sallisaw

Cherokee Nation artists are encouraged to submit their work for two new bid opportunities created to enhance tribal facilities.

The tribe is seeking 2D art to be displayed at the Sallisaw Child Development Center, located just south of the Redbird Smith Health Center. The center features more than 32,000 square feet and 12 classrooms, including four dedicated to infant care.

Artwork may be related but not limited to traditional stories, plants and animals, depictions of the Seven Clans and more. Some 3D work may be accepted if it can be framed.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on June 27.

The second bid is for 2D and 3D art to be displayed at the new Cherokee Nation Hospital currently underway in Tahlequah. The tribe broke ground in 2024 on the six-story hospital, which will replace the current W.W. Hastings Hospital.

The new hospital boasts more than 400,000 square feet of space and is located on the east side of the Cherokee Nation Outpatient Health Center. It will have 127 patient beds, a helipad, a Neo-natal ICU, a surgery center, a dialysis area and hospice care.

Work is accepted in traditional and contemporary styles and mediums and should showcase Cherokee history, culture or heritage.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. on July 18.

In accordance with Cherokee Nation law, when the price of a renovation or new construction project exceeds $500,000, 1% of the cost is set aside for procurement art from Cherokee Nation citizens. Individuals submitting bids are required to provide proof of citizenship and may submit no more than 20 submissions per bid.

For more information on the bids, please visit www.CherokeeBids. org. You can also contact artbidsubmissions@ cn-bus.com with any questions or to submit a digital bid.
