A Sallisaw man has reportedly died nearly four weeks after a serious motorcycle crash on Highway 82 near South Indian Road in Keys. The collision, which occurred on the evening of May 2, has now been ruled a fatality following the man’s death on May 29.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash took place at around 7:15 p.m. when a 2020 Ford Fusion, driven by Jeffrey M. Castillo, 22, of Park Hill, attempted a left turn from westbound Hwy. 82 onto S. Indian Road. At the same time, a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Jarret A. Burge, 56, of Sallisaw, was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 82. The motorcycle struck the Ford Fusion in the intersection.
Burge sustained critical injuries in the crash and was airlifted by First Flight to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, where he remained hospitalized for several weeks. He was pronounced deceased by hospital staff on May 29.
Castillo was not injured in the collision.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that the cause of the crash remains under investigation, including the condition of the vehicle driver at the time of the incident. Trooper Jared Sharp of the Traffic Homicide Division is leading the investigation.
