Ally Trotter, a 2025 graduate of Vian High School, is now working as an intern for the Vian Tenkiller NEWS and Sequoyah County Times.
She chose to intern with the newspapers not only because it’s close to home, but also because it aligns with the career field she hopes to pursue. The opportunity allows her to stay connected to her roots while gaining valuable hands-on experience in journalism and communications.
“I originally thought about being an Ag teacher like my parents, then I thought about writing for Agriculture Youth magazine, but I’m still thinking,” Trotter shared, when asked about her future career.
Her interests have remained rooted in agriculture, but over time, they’ve started to grow in a more creative and media-centered direction.
Trotter plans to attend Eastern Oklahoma State College, where she will major in Agriculture Communications. Her time in the FFA program at Vian High School played a big part in shaping that decision.
She was involved in numerous FFA events, but it was the Agriculture Communications competitions that stood out to her the most. She especially enjoyed the process of creating broadcasts, writing press releases and working with publishing materials, skills that blend agriculture and media in a unique and engaging way.
She also enjoyed participating in CDEs (Career Development Events), where students would take tests, analyze agricultural marketing materials, judge business cards, and study industry-related photographs. In class, she looked forward to learning broadcasting terms and practicing them through hands-on activities and classroom discussions.
Now, through her internship, Trotter is gaining real-world experience. She enjoys going out into the community and interviewing people across the county, learning their stories and telling them through her writing.
Each assignment helps her sharpen her skills and understand more about what a future in Ag communications might look like.
As Trotter continues her journey, she remains open-minded and driven. Her passion for agriculture and storytelling is leading her toward a career that blends both worlds. With college just around the corner and a solid foundation already in place, she is excited to see where this path will take her and she’s eager to keep learning along the way.
