Funeral services for John Edmond Girty Jr., 56, of Vian, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Agent & Mallory-Martin Chapel in Sallisaw.
Burial was at Redbird Smith Cemetery in Vian under the direction of Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Mr. Girty was born on May 5, 1969, in Tahlequah to John Edmond Girty Sr. and Wanda Lee (Washington) Girty. He died on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in Vian.
He worked as a general laborer, was an OU Sooners fan, enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and building birdhouses. He was an amazing brown bean cooker and was a Cherokee Keetoowah speaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Kandra Girty of Hot Springs, Ark.; six sisters, Peggy Sue and George Flute, Linda Jane Girty and his twin, Joan May and Gregory Murphy all of Vian, Susan Adair of Tahlequah, Brenda Lee Harvell of Gans and Elizabeth and Donald Jones of Sallisaw; three grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
Pallbearers were Stone Girty, Jeremiah Caves, Jacob Caves, Martin Morris, Derrick Morris, Stevie Morris, Frank Girty and Steven Hooper.
