Noe Fuentes, and his mother Xionara Esquivel, have poured their hearts into creating a space that feels like home for their customers at Sweet Roo’s – a cozy, family operated restaurant, formally know as Sweet Nana’s donut shop.
After moving from Texas to Vian, Fuentes and Esquivel found themselves drawn to the charm of small town Vian, where Esquivel said he fell in love with a house and property.
“The people in Vian are so kind and welcoming,” Esquivel says.
Not long after, they noticed that Sweet Nana’s was for sale.
“We saw the potential and decided we wanted to run a restaurant, as crazy as it sounds,” Fuentes said.
“Everyone knows everyone here, and we wanted to create a place where people feel at home,” Esquivel added.
As they took on the renovation of the restaurant, they added a 300 square foot addition to the front of the building, along with a complete kitchen upgrade. They also added an extra restroom to the building. To enhance the dining area, they mounted TVs and hung vibrant, modern rooster-themed art.
Fuentes and Esquivel shared that they kept the “Sweet” from “Sweet Nana’s” because it is welcoming and they wanted to welcome everyone into their restaurant.
The “Roo,” short for Rooster, is a homage to Fuentes’s late brother, who had a deep love for raising roosters. It’s also a nod to their slogan, “First Call to Breakfast.” Sweet Roo’s is the first restaurant to open in town, with breakfast being served bright and early at 5 a.m.
Fuentes and Esquivel strive to run their restaurant with good service and delicious food. They serve an all-American breakfast all day, and offer frozen coffees, along with milkshakes if you’re looking for something sweet. They mentioned that their sweet and unsweetened tea has become very popular. Although lunch is something fairly new, they still have plenty of options to choose from like crispy wings, fried pickles, mini sliders, and even pasta dishes like chicken alfredo or spaghetti and meatballs. They’ve even added flavorful dishes like fish and chips, Cajun style mahi-mahi, teriyaki salmon, and juicy ribeyes and New York strips.
For Fuentes and Esquivel, it’s all about bringing people together over great food. “We want our customers to feel like they’re part of our family. We take pride in offering them a place to relax, eat and enjoy each other’s company,” Fuentes says.
Something that Fuentes and Esquivel hope to achieve with their newly- opened restaurant is to show their dedication in supporting local businesses.
“We used only local contractors during our renovation,” Fuentes shared.
Both Fuentes and Esquivel say are committed to boosting the local economy and making Vian an even better place to live.
They’ve already made a big impact, and the future is bright for Sweet Roo’s. Fuentes and Esquivel hope to continue growing their restaurant, building lasting relationships with their customers, and contributing to the tight-knit community of Vian.
