Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s deputies, along with local first responders and firefighters responded to a structure fire Thursday at the Lewis RV park on Blackgum Landing Road.
Sheriff Larry Lane said Deputy Shane Petree was first on the scene, quickly ensuring all occupants were safely out of the camper.
“A female occupant and her two children had already evacuated the camper,” Sheriff Lane said. “Recognizing the potential hazard, Deputy Petree also confirmed that propane tanks had been disconnected.”
Lane said fortunately, a quick-thinking neighbor had already removed the tanks prior to emergency personnel’s arrival, helping prevent further danger.
Lane said the fire was contained without injuries and the cause is still under investigation as of press time.
Fire departments responding to the blaze included Blackgum, West Tenkiller and Rural Fire Protection Dist. 1.
