A Stilwell resident with ties to Sequoyah County has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to possessing a stolen firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Robey L. Butler, 36, received a sentence of three years probation for one count of possession of a stolen firearm.
The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White.
The charge stems from a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Sallisaw Police Department and Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office.
According to court documents, Butler was found in possession of a semi-automatic rifle on Nov. 7, 2023.
Authorities later determined that the firearm had been reported stolen in McCurtain, which is located in Le-Flore County.
Butler entered a guilty plea on Jan. 13, 2025.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jarrod A. Leaman and Lewis M. Reagan.
