Gary Cunningham of Gore will help lead the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service operations. Cunningham comes into his Sr. Director of Marshal Service position with 25 years in law enforcement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).
Starting in uniform patrol, Cunningham transitioned into drug enforcement before advancing to leadership roles, including Deputy Associate Director of the BIA, Division of Drug Enforcement.
He later served as the Special Agent in Charge for the BIA, Office of Justice Services, overseeing law enforcement operations for tribes across Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas.
Following Cunningham’s retirement from the BIA, he joined the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service in March 2022.
