Vian Lady Wolverines go 4-3 to begin 2025 season

The Vian Lady Wolverines went 4-3 during the opening week of the 2025 fast-pitch softball season last week to get the Jaykob Taylor coaching era off and running.

After opening with a 23-13 road romp over Spiro on Aug. 11, the Lady Wolverines lost two straight games — 3-1 to District 2A-10 rival Panama on Aug. 12 and 10-2 in five innings to Pocola on Thursday.

In the two-day Muldrow Festival, the Lady Wolverines went 3-1 — getting victories over Salina by an 8-3 score and blanking Roland 4-0 on Friday and splitting Saturday’s games as they beat Sallisaw 3-1 but lost 12-0 in three innings to Stigler.

In the win over Spiro, the Lady Wolverines broke a 1-all tie with a run in the second inning and seven runs in the third inning for a 9-1 lead. After the Lady Bulldogs cut the deficit to 9-3 after three innings, the Lady Wolverines responded with a two-run fourth inning for an 11-3 lead. A 12-run fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Leila Cheater was 4-for-4 with a double, five runs scored and three runs batted in, LaKoeta Cheater was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Sidney Cox was 4-for-5 with a triple, six RBIs and two runs scored, Halli Russell was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Rayleigh Terrill was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, Scarlett Fields was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Jordyn Cowett tripled with three runs scored and an RBI for Vian.

Cassidee Postoak (43) got the win, getting two strikeouts in five innings.

In the loss to Panama, the Lady Wolverines (0-1 in district play) took a 1-0 lead on Russell’s RBI triple in the opening inning before the Lady ’Backs tied the game at 1-all in their half of the frame.

In defeat, Russell hit an RBI triple, while Eden Girty singled for the only hits for Vian. Postoak suffered the loss.

In the loss to Pocola, the Lady Indians scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the third inning for a 5-0 lead. The Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 5-2 in the fourth inning, but the Lady Indians put the game into runrule status with a fourrun fourth inning and a single run in the fifth inning.

In defeat, Leila Cheater went 2-for-2, while Girty, Russell, Fields and LaKoeta Cheater each singled for Vian.

Postoak took the loss, going the first 2.2 innings. Leila Cheater went the final 1.2 innings in relief.

In the win over Salina, a six-run fifth inning rallied the Lady Wolverines for the comeback victory.

For the game, Terrill was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, LaKoeta Cheater was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Cox was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored for Vian. Postoak got the win, getting two strikeouts in five innings.

In the victory over Roland, Postoak threw a six-inning one-hitter with two strikeouts.

The Lady Wolverines had a pair of two-run innings, one in the second inning and the other in the third inning, to break a scoreless tie.

For the game, Terrill was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while LaKoeta Cheater doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Vian.

In the win over Sallisaw, after the Lady Diamonds took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Wolverines got the come-from-behind win with a two-run third inning and a single run in the fourth inning.

For the game, Tinley Gibson tripled and scored once, Russell singled and scored once and Terrill and Postoak each singled for Vian.

Postoak got the win, going the first three innings with a strikeout. Leila Cheater got her first save of the season, going the final two innings with a strikeout.

In the loss to Stigler, Stigler pitcher Addy Wallis threw a threeinning two-hitter with three strikeouts.

In defeat, LaKoeta Cheater and Gibson each singled for Vian.

Postoak suffered the loss, going two innings. Leila Cheater went the final inning.
