For the second straight week, the Gore Lady Pirates split two games as they defeated county rival Vian 5-2 on Aug. 18 at Vian’s Armstrong Park but lost their Riverside Conference road game 8-6 to McCurtain on Aug. 19.
In the win over Vian, the Lady Pirates (2-2) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but the Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 3-2 after four innings but got no closer.
For the game, Sophie O’Connor was 2-for-4 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored, Jemma Peevy was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Kennedy Williams doubled and Emily Daily tripled with an RBI for Gore.
Alevia Reasnor (2-0) got the complete-game victory as she struck out seven batters.
In the loss to McCurtain, the Lady Bulldogs, who trailed 4-3 in the fifth inning, scored five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good at 8-4 after five innings. The Lady Pirates scored twice in the seventh inning, but their rally fell short.
In defeat, Peevy was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, Hallie Brewer doubled with two RBIs and River Shoemake doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Gore.
Peevy (0-2) took the loss, going the first 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts. Reasnor went the final 1.2 innings with three Ks.
