Vian Lady Wolverines beat Hulbert, fall to Gore, Howe; home three-way rained out Aug. 19

It was a rough week for the Vian Lady Wolverines as they went 1-2 last week as well as having their home three-way with Muldrow and Kansas rained out Aug. 19.

The Lady Wolverines split their home games on Aug. 18 at Armstrong Park, routing Hulbert 14-4 but losing to Sequoyah County rival Gore 5-2.

On Thursday, the Lady Wolverines lost their home District 2A-10 game 20-4 in four innings to the Howe Lady Lions.

On Friday, the Lady Wolverines lost 6-4 to the host Sallisaw Lady Diamonds in a game that originally was set for noon Aug. 30.

In the win over Hulbert, the Lady Wolverines (5-6) broke a 1-all tie with a six-run second inning for a 7-1 lead after two innings.

For the game, Leila Cheater was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two runs batted in, Halli Russell was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored, La-Koeta Cheater was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Cassidee Postoak was 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Rayleigh Terrill was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, Scarlett Fields was 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored and Sidney Cox was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Vian.

Postoak (5-6) got the win, getting four Ks in four innings.

In the loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates took a 3-0 lead in the second inning,buttheLadyWolverines cut their deficit to 3-2 after four innings but got no closer.

In defeat, Tinley Gibson was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Jordyn Cowett was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Vian. Postoak suffered the loss, despite fanning seven batters in seven innings.

In the loss to Howe, the Lady Lions took a 6-0 lead in the second inning, which became a 12-2 lead in the third inning. An eight-run fourth inning put the game into runrule status.

In defeat, Cowett doubled with two runs scored and an RBI, while Gibson doubled with two RBIs for Vian.

Postoak took the loss, going the first 3.2 innings. Leila Cheater got the final out of the fourth inning.

In the loss to Sallisaw, the Lady Diamonds broke a 4-all tie with two runs in the fifth inning to cap the come-frombehind victory. In defeat, Tinley Gibson doubled with an RBI, LaKoeta Cheater singled and scored once, Cox singled with an RBI and Russell singled for Vian. Postoak suffered the loss, despite getting three strikeouts in six innings.
