ARKOMA — The good news for the Webbers Falls Warriors was they scored four touchdowns in the four-way scrimmage with the host Arkoma Mustangs, the Keota Lions and Crossover, Ark., on Friday night at Mustang Field.
Brutus Robinson accounted for all four touchdowns as he scored on runs of 7 and 30 yards and threw two 40-yard TD passes to Gunner Shelby.
“I was pretty pleased being the first week,” Webbers Falls coach Trent Holt said. “We threw the ball decent, and we ran it OK. I thought overall we played pretty well.”
If there was a concern which the scrimmage showed, it was the Warriors will need to get improvement from their linemen.
“Our offensive line still has a lot of work to do,” Holt said.
The Warriors will have one more preseason scrimmage at 6 p.m. Thursday at Wetumka along with Bowlegs. Holt said he most definitely wants to see improvement in his linemen among other things.
“We need to see improvement from both our offensive and defensive lines,” he said. “They have to play a little bit better. Our (defensive) secondary is still slow in reading and reacting. We have to clean that up. They need to trust what they’re reading, then react. It seems like they want to think a little bit too much while we’re playing.”
