Acts 3:10 “And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.” The term “Wonders of the World” often refers to lists of remarkable human-made structures or natural locations. The most well-known lists are the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the New Seven Wonders of the World. The ancient wonders are all historical sites, while the modern wonders include both historical and natural locations.
The term itself means a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable.
Man is in awe of many things. The only remaining one Wonder of the Old World is the pyramids. Scientists ponder, speculate, guess, think about, and then are totally baffled on how the huge stones of the pyramids were moved into position. You can watch documentaries for days and each differ from each other from slaves dragging them into position to alien technology being used to move them into position. The only way to remove the mystery of the thing was to have been there when it happened.
The same wonder and speculation happens around the creation of the earth and its people. People speculate wildly from Big Bang theory to the Creator God making the heavens and the earth. Again, no man witnessed this creation, but I have plenty of questions about the Big Band Theory. Many, many things about the universe contradicts their theory. By the way, let’s define theory. A theory is a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained. Theories abound, but theories are just people thinking they have the answer and their thought cannot be proven so they are called theories. Again, actual proof requires someone to actually have been there when it happened.
Science has two imputable facts to establish absolute proof. 1. The event or action has to be observed. 2. The event or action has to be reproducible. There is a rub on both of those things in relationship to theories.
Now if God authored the Scriptures, He indeed is an eye witness and gives His account of creation of earth, plants, animals, creeping things, etc. then He created man. He being an eye witness should be believed. Since He is not able to be questioned by man, man chooses to believe theories instead of placing their faith in the eye witness.
Hebrews 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
That could lead me into a discussion of atoms, electrons, protons, neutrons, particles, and quarks that make up the world, but are not seen, but I want to get back to the lame man that was healed.
Our lame man that was at that gate of the temple had been lame from birth. He had sat at that gate for years. He was known to everyone that entered the temple through the Beautiful Gate. He had learned to cry out and beg for alms because he could not walk or hold down a job. Peter and John were about to enter the temple when they saw and heard him begging. Peter looked at him seriously and spoke to him. Acts 3:6 “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
Peter and John seemed to be broke yet they possessed the power given them to from God. They had the power to heal. “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
Peter’s action caused many, many men to wonder about the lame man. Acts 3:10 “And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.”
They were filled with wonder and amazement. It was something that they had not seen before, yet there were eye witnesses so it could not be denied. Acts 3:11 “And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.”
This was not a theory. This was not a jumble of far-fetched ideas. People saw the man and they saw the results of what Peter had been able to manifest. He had spoken and a man who was lame from birth stood up and walked. Acts 3:7-9 “And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God:” He hugged Peter and John (held them) praising God and not Peter or John. They were simple servants of God. The people assembled and Peter was able to offer the Kingdom of God to them as he preached. Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” So this wonder was rooted in truth that could not be denied instead of a collection of ideas called theories. Again, I state the obvious: Theories are not proven facts. They are men sitting around trying to contradict the Word of God. If man admits there is a Creator God as written in Genesis, then they have to admit that they are sinners in need of a Savior. They have devoted their entire lives trying to prove there is no God. This will lead them to another place they also think is ficticious…hell.
Friend, understand what Genesis tells us: Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Admit there is a Holy God, admit you are a sinner in need of salvation. Ask Christ to saved you, cleanse you, and make you a child of God.
Don’t let some atheistic, God hating sinner lead you astray. Don’t gamble with your eternity on theories. Believe God, the true eye witness of creation.
