Please write a 1,000 word theme concerning this old house. Just kidding, because I know that each of us could write much more.
But, just imagine the wonderful Christmas trees that were decorated in this house, the wonderful cookies strung on the tree, the popcorn chains – all on that old library table that set in the bay window. One could write many words on the story that damaged this old house in 1936.
I wonder how many words one could get writing the story of the night Cherokee Nighthawk Keetoowahs came into town single file, encircled the home, and offered their “medicine” for the healing of Dr. John Eichling, the homeowner, who had been robbed and shot in his office.
I wonder how scared Aunt Dorothy and Aunt Bertha were as they awaited news of their father, and witnessed this great number of Indians surrounding their home.
Do you remember the old water bucket that sat by the kitchen window, and the dipper that hung on its side for everyone to drink water from the old cistern-and the old cookie jar to its left? Do you remember the many daffodils lining the walks and forming designs on the lawn?
Do you remember Grandpa Eichling’s rose garden, orchard, grapevines, rock house, two holer, and sidewalk where we use to ride our tricycles, bicycles and skated? How about the old Linden trees where we had swings and climbed when parents weren’t watching?
