Firefighters with Sequoyah County Rural Fire Protection District 1 and the Gore Fire Department joined together to set up a memorial site in remembrance of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. Members of the departments said this is a sacred space dedicated to the 2,977 souls lost that day, including 343 brave firefighters who ran toward danger so that others could escape. They invite the community to stop by, pay their respects, and reflect on the courage, sacrifice and unity that emerged from that tragic day.
