Vian Lady Wolverines go 1-6 in last seven games
By David Seeley Sports Editor

It’s been a rough stretch for the Vian Lady Wolverines as they entered this week going 1-6 in their previous seven games.

The only win in that stretch for the Lady Wolverines was an 8-6 win over Cameron on Thursday afternoon at Armstrong Park.

On Aug. 29 at Armstrong Park, the Lady Wolverines lost both home games played to enter Labor Day Weekend as they fell 8-5 to Okemah and 9-3 to Wister.

On Sept. 2 at Armstrong Park, the Lady Wolverines lost their District 2A-10 home game 18-2 in three innings to Panama.

After the loss to Cameron, the Lady Wolverines fell 14-1 to Quinton on Thursday at Armstrong Park.

Over the weekend, the Lady Wolverines lost their district road game 14-0 to Howe on Friday, then they lost their Saturday home game to Keys by the score of 13-7.

In the loss to Okemah, the Lady Panthers rallied from a 3-2 firstinning deficit with a two-run second inning, a run in the third inning and a three-run fourth inning to put them ahead 8-3 after four innings.

In defeat, Halli Russell and Rayleigh Terrill each doubled and scored once for the Lady Wolverines (6-13).

Leila Cheater (1-4) suffered the loss, going the first four innings with four strikeouts. Jordyn Cowett went the final three innings.

In the loss to Wister, the Lady Wildcats scored twice in the first inning and three runs in the third inning for a 5-0 lead. The Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 5-1 after four innings but got no closer.

In defeat, Sidney Cox was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in, while Terrill singled and scored once for Vian. Cowett (0-1) suffered her first loss of the season.

In the loss to Panama, the Lady Razorbacks put away the game early with an 11-run first inning. A three-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.

The Lady Wolverines (0-3 in District 2A-10 play) scored their two runs in the third inning, but it was not enough to keep the game going.

In defeat, Tinley Gibson was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI, Russell doubled and scored once and Tressa Sandlin singled and scored once for Vian.

Cowett (0-2) took the loss, pitching just the first inning. Leila Cheater went the final two innings.

In the win over Cameron, the Lady Wolverines rallied from a 6-4 deficit with a four-run fourth inning.

For the game, Russell was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Gibson was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Terrill was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored for Vian.

Leila Cheater got her first win of the season, going the first 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Cowett got her first save of the season as she went the final 2.2 innings with three Ks.

In the loss to Quinton, the Lady Wolverines were one-hit, with that hit being a single by Russell.

The Lady Savages jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, then used a seven-run third inning to put away the game.

Leila Cheater suffered the loss, going the first 2.2 innings. Cassidee Postoak went the final 1.1 innings.

In the loss to Howe, the Lady Lions erupted for 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Howe pitcher Kadynce Delt threw a nohitter and struck out six batters in three innings.

Leila Cheater took the loss as she only lasted the first two-thirds of the opening inning. Postoak went the rest of the way.

In the loss to Keys, the Lady Cougars got out to a 9-0 lead in the fourth inning before a five-run fourth inning for the Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 9-5 but they got no closer.

In defeat, Russell was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Scarlett Fields was 2-for-2 with a run scored, LaKoeta Cheater doubled with two RBIs and Sandlin doubled and scored once for Vian.
