The Vian Board of Trustees met for their regular meeting on August 18, addressing a full agenda that included community projects, resignations and routine department reports.
One of the key actions taken was approving a motion for the town to assume responsibility for the annual Vian Fireworks Show. The event, previously organized by the Vian Community Foundation (VCF), will now be overseen by the town.
The motion, introduced by Vice-mayor Rick Peoples and seconded by Trustee Shane Kolbe, passed unanimously.
Discussion also centered on the Vian Youth League Field project. Town Administrator Keith Boshers and Suzanne Sullivan with the VCF presented bids for field improvements.
However, the board opted to table the matter for further consideration.
The board also addressed the Downtown Parking Lot Project. Instead of awarding the project, trustees voted unanimously to extend the bidding window through Sept. 4 at 10 a.m., allowing more time for potential bids.
In other business, the resignation of Calvin Gregory was accepted by the board.
Trustees also voted to approve reports from the police, fire, sanitation, street and parks departments, as well as the treasurer’s report, which included prior meeting minutes, financial updates, and purchase orders.
Following the regular session, the Vian Public Works Authority (VPWA) convened.
The board entered into executive session to discuss confidential legal matters regarding the Sequoyah County Water Association vs. VPWA, Case #CJ-2025-26. The issue was tabled with no action taken once the board returned to open session.
The VPWA later approved its treasurer’s report, which included the Oklahoma Water Resources Board report, and adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
