Vian softball team suffers through tough week

It was a rough week for the Vian Lady Wolverines as they went 1-5 last week.

The lone win for the Lady Wolverines was a 10-5 win over Quapaw on Thursday in the Wyandotte Festival.

The week started with a 20-5 home loss to Central on Sept. 8 at Armstrong Park, followed by a 15-3 home loss to Porum on Sept. 9.

In the Wyandotte Festival, the Lady Wolverines went 1-3.

After beating Quapaw on Thursday, the Lady Wolverines lost 9-4 to Fairland.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolverines suffered a 10-4 loss to Wyandotte and a 13-1 loss to Westville.

In the loss to Central, the Lady Tigers, down 4-2 after two innings, erupted for 13 runs in the third inning to take a 15-4 lead. A five-run fourth inning put the game into runrule status.

In defeat, Leila Cheater was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Halli Russell doubled with an RBI and Rayleigh Terrill and Scarlett Fields each singled and scored once for the Lady Wolverines (7-18).

Cassidee Postoak (5-8) suffered the loss, recording two strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Jordyn Cowett went the final inning.

In the loss to Porum, Porum pitcher Jaelyn Smith threw a three-inning, five-hitter.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning. After the Lady Wolverines scored three runs in their half of the frame, the Lady Panthers scored five runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Cowett doubled with an RBI, La-Koeta Cheater doubled and scored, Leila Cheater doubled, Russell singled and scored once and Tinley Gibson singled with an RBI for Vian. Cowett (0-3) took the loss.

In the Wyandotte Festival win over Quapaw, the Lady Wolverines rallied from a 4-2 secondinning deficit with a three-run third inning and a five-run fourth inning to take a 10-4 lead.

For the game, Terrill was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Russell doubled with two runs scored and LaKoeta Cheater doubled and scored twice for Vian.

Leila Cheater (2-6) got the win, going the first three innings with four strikeouts. Cowett went the final inning with a strikeout.

In the Wyandotte Festival loss to Fairland, the Lady Owls rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a sevenrun third inning and a run in the fourth inning.

In defeat, Russell was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Terrill was 2-for-3 and Cowett doubled with an RBI for Vian.

Leila Cheater took the loss, going the first 2.1 innings. Cowett went the rest of the way.

In the Wyandotte Festival loss to the Wyandotte, the Lady Bears rallied from a 4-3 deficit with a seven-run third inning to the lead for good.

In defeat, Cowett was 2-for-3, Eden Girty doubled with an RBI and a run scored, Gibson singled and scored once and Fields singled for Vian. Leila Cheater suffered the loss.

In the Wyandotte Festival loss to Westville, Westville pitcher Kori Eagleton threw a threeinning three-hitter.

The Lady Yellowjackets scored three runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning for an 8-0 lead after two innings. A five-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Cowett, La-Koeta Cheater and Terrill each singled for Vian.

Cowett suffered the loss, going the first 2.2 innings with two strikeouts. Leila Cheater got the final out.
