Vian Lady Wolverines suffer road losses to Central, Hulbert; played in Class 2A Regional Tournament Tuesday at Pocola
By David Seeley Sports Editor

It was a rough way for the Vian Lady Wolverines softball team to enter this week’s Class 2A Regional Tournament, which was slated to take place Tuesday and today in Pocola.

The Lady Wolverines suffered two road losses last week, falling 13-11 to Hulbert on Sept. 16 and losing 11-8 to Central on Thursday.

In the road loss to Hulbert, a late rally failed to win the game for the Lady Wolverines (9-20).

After the Lady Riders scored 12 runs in the fourth inning to take a 13-7 lead, the Lady Wolverines scored once in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning to cut it to 13-11, but their rally came up short.

In defeat, Halli Russell was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, Tinley Gibson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, LaKoeta Cheater was 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Scarlett Fields was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Rayleigh Terrill doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Sidney Cox doubled and scored once for Vian.

Jordyn Cowett (04) suffered the loss in relief. Leila Cheater pitched six innings with three strikeouts.

In the road loss to Central, the Lady Tigers, who trailed 8-0 in the fourth inning, scored four runs in the fourth inning, five runs in the fifth inning and twice in the sixth inning to complete the comeback win. In defeat, Russell was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, LaKoeta Cheater was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Eden Girty was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cowett doubled for Vian.

Leila Cheater (2-7) suffered the loss, going four innings with three strikeouts. Cowett went the final two innings with two strikeouts.
