Vian Wolverines bounce back from loss to handle Pocola Indians
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Vian Wolverines football team responded in a big-time positive way after losing last week’s road game to Kiefer as the Wolverines handled the Pocola Indians 4120 last Friday night at St. John Stadium.

After falling behind the Indians 6-0, the Wolverines (2-1) took the lead for good on Masyn Wright’s 61-yard touchdown run and Cash Trammel’s extra point for a 7-6 lead with 7:18 left in the first quarter.

Trammel then threw a 37-yard TD pass to Draighton Fletcher and kicked the PAT to up Vian’s advantage to 14-6 with 10:03 remaining before halftime.

Trammel sneaked it in from a yard out and kicked the extra point to put the Wolverines ahead 21-6 with 4:50 left in the first half.

A TD by Pocola with 31 seconds left in the first half cut Vian’s lead to 21-12 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Wolverines scored twice within a 53-second span to pretty much seal the deal.

Fletcher scored on a 9-yard touchdown run and Trammel kicked the PAT to increase Vian’s advantage to 28-12 with 8:28 left in the game.

Just 53 seconds later, Garritt Hunt recovered a Pocola fumble in the end zone for a TD. However, the PAT failed, keeping Vian on top 34-12 with 7:21 remaining to play.

After the Indians cut their deficit to 34-20 with 5:48 remaining in the game, the Wolverines iced the game with a 3-yard TD run by Riley Ellis with 48 seconds left in the game. Trammel hit the extra point.

Trammel passed for 111 yards and a touchdown, while Wright rushed for 118 yards and a TD.

The Wolverines will begin District 2AII-4 play as they entertain the Spiro Bulldogs at 7 p.m. this Friday at St. John Stadium.
