Vian Choir students selected for prestigious EDHC Honor Choir

Two Vian High School choir members earned top honors at district regionals on September 20, with both advancing to perform in the Eastern District Honor Choir (EDHC).

Competing at Muskogee High School, sophomore Isaiah Drew and junior Kilyn Walker impressed judges with their performances. Drew, a firstyear choir member, secured the number one spot for tenors, while Walker, in her third year with the program, ranked 10th among sopranos.

Both students will represent Vian at the EDHC regional concert on October 21 at 7 p.m. at Boulevard Christian Church in Muskogee.

“Isaiah Drew is a new choir member this year and has already done an amazing job competing. I’m so proud of him. Kilyn Walker has been in choir for three years and she works hard and does an amazing job as well,” Vian Choir Director Christina Herriman, said. “I’m very proud of both of these kids.”

The two singers are now prepar- ing for the next challenge: the All-State competition in November. To get ready, the Vian choir attended a summer camp at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, funded in part by car washes, donations, and support from the Vian Community Foundation and Bill Sanford.

“I’m hoping for another successful year of learning and competition,” Herriman added. “We appreciate the community and their support of these talented students and I know the students do as well.”

The choir program is also growing rapidly, with nearly 30 students now participating at the middle school level. Fundraising efforts will soon begin to purchase new uniforms to meet the program’s needs.

The Vian Choir will next host its annual Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. on December 5, in the high school cafetorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
