The Illinois Drug Company was established by Dr. W.W. Campbell. The company was sold to Dr.
J.A. Eichling in early 1899. Standing on the porch is Dr. John Eichling and his brotherin- law, William P Nonweiler, a druggist. The young boy is Frank Holland, related to the Ensminger Family.
This building faced the tracks, The Mays: Hotel south and the business places of Gilliland Brothers General Merchandise and S N Carlile & Sons Nearly Everything, north. Today, the building would have been located in the middle of Main Street with the Tea Room, now Kove, on one side and Junior McCoy’s business, formerly Corley’s Service Station, on the other.
This building is possibly the site of the original post office started in 1888 with David Barrick as the first Post Master.
An envelope of a letter from Dr. John Eichling to his mother was postmarked Campbell Indian Territory, Feb. 23, 1899. Also, the town of Madrid, Spencer County, Indiana, was lisated as the home of his parents and the birth place of Dr. Eichling.
