The Webbers Falls Board of Trustees met in special session on Sept. 17 to discuss improvements to the town’s senior nutrition program and approve the hiring of two fulltime police officers.
Shannon Turner, with the Eastern Oklahoma Development District (EODD) Senior Citizen Nutrition Grant Program, spoke to the board about funding opportunities available through the CENA grant.
Turner outlined several ways the program could assist the town, including helping provide a refrigerator and freezer so that food could be purchased and stored in bulk for meal preparation.
She also discussed costsaving options such as using crock pots and roaster ovens, and the possibility of volunteers preparing meals at home and delivering them to the senior center.
No formal action was taken following the discussion.
Trustees unanimously approved payment of Invoice No. 136638 from Emergency Apparatus Maintenance in the amount of $2,517.50.
Police, personnel changes The board entered an executive session to discuss personnel matters involving two police officer candidates. Following the session, they approved the hiring of Brayden Grant as a full-time police officer at a rate of $15 per hour until completion of his CLEET certification, after which his pay will be reviewed.
The board also voted to hire Clifton Ramsey as a full-time police officer at $17 per hour. Ramsey, who resides in Okmulgee, will be allowed to drive a police vehicle to Checotah and park it in a designated area arranged between the Webbers Falls and Checotah police chiefs.
Both motions passed unanimously.
