The Vian Wolverines not only won for the sixth straight game, but they celebrated Senior Night victoriously as they routed the Wilburton Diggers 51-7 in the rain last Friday night at St. John Stadium.
The Wolverines (7-1 overall, 5-0 in District 2AII-4 play) jumped out to a 24-0 lead after the first quarter as Masyn Wright scored on touchdown runs of 35 and 60 yards, while Draighton Fletcher scored on a 3-yard TD run. Wright scored all three twopoint conversions.
In the second quarter, the Wolverines saw Fletcher score his second TD on a 43-yard run, while Wright completed his hat trick of touchdown runs on a 6-yard score. Fletcher scored the two-point conversion after his touchdown to increase the Vian advantage to 38-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Riley Ellis caught a 23yard TD pass from Cash Trammel, while Ledger Folsom capped the night with an 85-yard interception return for Vian’s final score. Trammel kicked the extra point after Folsom’s pick-6.
For the game, Wright had 183 yards rushing and three touchdowns, while Fletcher rushed for 114 and two TDs.
The Wolverines will travel to meet the Morris Eagles (1-7, 1-4) at 7 p.m. this Friday. The Eagles lost 51-7 last Thursday night to Valliant, which will be Vian’s regular-season finale opponent at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in what likely will be for the district championship.
