Last fall, then Webbers Falls senior Cheyanne Herrier qualified for the Class A State Meet.
Fast forward a year, and the former Lady Warrior is getting to run at the big meet once more as Herrier and her Murray State College Lady Aggies will be running in the 2025 NJCAA Championships on Saturday in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Herrier was glad she made the cut to qualify for the national meet.
“I was very excited with my team,” she said. “I was jumping up and down with joy. I’m looking forward to it.”
For most of her Webbers Falls cross country career, she was THE runner for the Lady Warriors. This fall, she has the entire Lady Aggies team running as they all qualified for the national meet.
“It feels really good,” Herrier said. “It’s a big difference from being on my own to having an actual team that supports you throughout the entire time you’re running, and just having a cheer squad with you. It’s amazing.”
Herrier is not only relying upon her experience at last fall’s state meet in which she ran in her senior season to help her on Saturday, but also her teammates and their techniques.
“I am going to try to use some of that experience I used in high school, but I’ve also learned the other girls’ (teammates’) experiences they’ve used,” Herrier said. “So, I might try something different. It’s nice to have a Plan A and a Plan B.”
So far, college life at the junior college in Tishomingo, located about a half hour east of Ardmore in Johnston County, has been enjoyable for the Webbers Falls runner.
“It has been really good,” she said. “The people here have really been really supportive, really helpful with all of my college work that I’ve had to do. Sports wise, they’ve been very supportive and helpful throughout the season as well.”
