MORRIS — The Vian Wolverines can now totally focus on repeating as District 2AII-4 champions.
The Wolverines routed the Morris Eagles 49-6 last Friday night.
With the win, the Wolverines (8-1 overall, 6-0 in district play) now set up the showdown with the Valliant Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) for the district title at 7 p.m. Thursday in Valliant.
The game will decide the district champion and the district runner- up.
The Vian-Valliant winner will be the district champion and will have up to two home playoff games — providing it wins the playoff opener on Nov. 14.
The Vian-Valliant loser will be the district runner-up, and will have a home playoff game on Nov. 14 before likely going on the road for the Class 2A, Division II state quarterfinals on Nov. 21.
The Wolverines scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, with the first score being a 24-yard touchdown run by Masyn Wright. Cash Trammel’s extra point put Vian ahead 7-0 with 9:24 left in the period.
Trammel threw the first of three TD passes later in the quarter as he connected with Ledger Folsom on a 12yard touchdown pass with 5:28 remaining in the quarter. Trammel’s PAT doubled Vian’s advantage to 14-0 after a period.
The Wolverines put away the game with four TDs in the second quarter, with three of them being courtesy of Trammel.
Trammel hit Trace Sanders on a 52-yard touchdown pass and connected for a second touchdown pass with Folsom, this one a 15-yarder. Trammel scored the final second- period touchdown on a 23-yard run.
Wright scored his second TD of the night on a 46-yard run, with Trammel hitting all four PATs, as Vian went into the locker rooms at halftime with a 42-0 lead.
Draighton Fletcher scored Vian’s final touchdown on a 27yard run with 8:20 left in the third quarter to increase the advantage to 49-0 after three quarters.
For the game, Trammel threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns, while Wright had 115 yards rushing and a TD.
Folsom and Riley Ellis each had an interception on defense.
