Vian High School choir member Isaiah Drew was recently selected for Oklahoma’s Vocal All-State Choir.
Auditions for the prestigious choir were held in November. Students began preparations for the auditions in the summer of 2025 and traveled to All-State Camp at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany in June.
Drew completed the intense vocal training camp and started rehearsing various audition pieces. Several musical selections were in foreign languages – including Latin. After months of rehearsing, he traveled to Ada High School to audition for round 1.
After qualifying for round 2, he then traveled to Rose State College in Oklahoma City to audition for the final round of All-State Choir. He was selected for Tenor 1 for the 2026 OKCDA All-State Choir.
Over 2,500 students auditioned from across the state of Oklahoma for the prestigious choir competition.
Drew will travel to Oklahoma City in January to represent Vian in the All-State Choir. After several days of intense rehearsals, he will perform the last day with other All-State choir members from across the state at the Oklahoma City Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City on Jan. 10, 2026.
“The students must be dedicated to make the All-State Choir. It takes months of preparation and the pieces are always collegiate level. Stu- dents are competing against all schools across the state of Oklahoma.
Many larger schools have multiple choir directors and even private voice teachers to give them a huge advantage over smaller schools,” Vian Choir Director Christina Herriman said.
“Isaiah has practiced before school, after school, and during the summer. He spends hours rehearsing at school and home and has earned this honor.”
Herriman said Drew also placed first in district region this year for Tenor 1 and was then featured in a solo during the concert.
“He was showcased and accompanied with the choir backing him up during his feature. It was amazing. I am so proud of him. He is a freshman this year and I know he has an amazing future ahead in his high school music career,” she added.
“Along with choir, he is a great student and is very active in the Vian Band where he plays the trombone. He stays very busy and still finds time to practice and be dedicated. I couldn’t be more proud of him!” she concluded.
Herriman said the choir is currently raising funds for All-State, which will cover hotel costs, contest fees and meals.
Donations can be made by mailing them to the choir at: Vian Public Schools, PO Box 434, Vian, OK 74962, or dropping it off at the superintendent’s office. The choir will also have their annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 15, at the high school cafetorium. It is open to the public and free to attend.
Everyone is welcome to come out and support the choir.
