The Grinch apprehended by Vian Police at event
By AMIE CATO-REMER Editor,

Downtown Vian was filled with lights, laughter and holiday cheer Thursday evening— until an unexpected troublemaker in green fur made his presence known.

According to Vian Police Chief Mark Harkins, officers were alerted to a disturbance at the Downtown in December event involving none other than the Grinch himself.

“We received reports that the Grinch was attempting to steal Christmas cheer from everyone in attendance,” Chief Harkins said with a grin. “After consulting with the District Attorney, it was determined that this behavior clearly constituted a crime against decency and public outrage.”

What followed was a brief but spirited pursuit through the festivities. Police say the Grinch resisted just enough to make things interesting, but officers were able to apprehend him quickly and without incident.

“The situation was handled safely and professionally,” Harkins said. “No presents were harmed during the apprehension.”

However, the story did not end there.

While being transported, the Grinch reportedly made a daring escape, prompting authorities to issue a playful but serious BOLO (Be On the Lookout) advisory.

“He made it very clear that he has no plans to stop trying to steal Christmas,” Harkins said. “So we’re reminding everyone to keep an eye on their presents and most importantly, their Christmas cheer.”

Despite the Grinch’s antics, Chief Harkins emphasized that Downtown in December was a tremendous success and credited much of that to the tireless work behind the scenes.

“A special thank you goes out to Lindsey Sullivan for her hard work in putting this huge event together,” he said. “She spent the entire evening organizing and ensuring everything was fun and safe for the community. Each year, she works so hard that she doesn’t even get to enjoy the event herself. Her dedication does not go unnoticed, and our community truly appreciates her.” As for the Grinch, police say he remains at large, at least for now. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant, spread kindness and remember that even a little extra Christmas cheer can go a long way.

“And if you happen to see a green figure lurking near your decorations,” Chief Harkins added, “give us a call. We’ll be ready.”
