The Vian Board of Trustees worked through a full agenda during its regular meeting on Nov. 17, approving major funding for youth activities, accepting multiple departmental reports and entering an executive session to discuss confidential employment matters.
After being tabled in October, the board voted unanimously to approve a $171,000 expenditure for the Vian Youth League project. The motion, made by Trustee Rick Peoples and seconded by Trustee Shane Kolbe, passed with all present members voting yes.
The board also approved the 2026 schedule of regular town meetings, following a motion by Kolbe and seconded by Trustee E.O. Smith. The public works authority later approved its own 2026 meeting schedule in a separate session.
Trustees unanimously accepted the police, fire, and sanitation/street & parks department reports. The treasurer’s report, including prior minutes, the treasurer’s summary, fuel report and purchase orders, was also approved.
At 8:06 p.m., the board entered executive session to discuss confidential employment issues under Oklahoma Statute Title 25, Section 307.B(1). After returning to open session, trustees took no action on the personnel matters referenced in the session.
In one of the evening’s final actions, trustees voted not to approve the District 27 Multi-Jurisdictional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force agreement with the District Attorney’s Office. The agreement had also been tabled at the October meeting but was ultimately rejected by unanimous vote by the members present.
Following the town meeting, the Vian Public Works Authority (VPWA) convened and entered into an executive session to confer with legal counsel regarding three ongoing matters:
• Sequoyah County Water Association vs. Vian Public Works Authority (CJ-2025-26)
• DEQ vs. Vian Public Works Authority (CV-2023-2874)
• Notice of Tort Claim #217786-1-LN After returning to open session, trustees voted to table all three items, pending further review or developments.
The VPWA unanimously approved its treasurer’s report, which included prior meeting minutes, purchase orders and an Oklahoma Water Resources Board report, with the meeting adjourning at 9:45 p.m.
