The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors finished as runners-up at the Wilson Tiger Classic, which took place Thursday through Saturday, as they lost 42-40 to the host Wilson Lady Tigers in Saturday night’s title game.
After getting an opening-round bye, the Lady Warriors snapped their two-game losing streak with a 27-25 win over the Glenpool Lady Warriors junior varsity on Friday afternoon to reach the title game.
The Warriors won the consolation championship with a 55-43 win over Putnam City Heights on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors split their first two games in the tournament, losing 75-37 to Liberty in Thursday’s openinground game but ending their three-game losing streak with a 53-49 win over Owasso Prep in Friday’s consolation semifinals.
In the girls’ championship game, trailing 34-31 after three periods, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Warriors 14-6 in the fourth quarter to get the come-from-behind victory.
In defeat, Allie Patterson scored 14 points to lead the Lady Warriors (2-3), followed by Abbie Patterson and Bailey Ward with eight points each, Katie Frazier with five points, Madison Smith with three points and Audri Spears with two points.
Allie Patterson and Frazier made the alltournament team.
In the girls’ championship semifinals, the Lady Warriors rallied from a 5-2 first-quarter deficit to take the lead for good with a 9-1 second period to take an 11-6 halftime lead, which became a 21-9 advantage after three quarters. However, Glenpool JV’s Laila Thomas made things interesting as she scored 16 fourth-quarter points, which outscored Webbers Falls’ team total of six, but the Lady Warriors held on for the win.
For the game, Ward and Hailey Shanks scored six points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Allie Patterson with five points, Frazier with four points and Spears, Abbie Patterson and Paizley Turley with two points apiece.
In the boys’ consolation title game, the Warriors (3-3) took a 14-9 lead after the first quarter, which became a 3025 halftime advantage and a 47-28 lead into the final period.
For the game, Webbers Falls put a quartet of players into double figures, led by Gunner Shelby with 14 points, followed by Brutus Robinson with 12 points, Cason Newcomer with 11 points and Chevy Cole with 10 points. Thadan Yandell scored six points, while Eli Hefflin added two points.
Yandell was named to the all-tournament team.
In the boys’ consolation semifinals, the Warriors rallied from a 12-10 deficit after a period to take a 28-26 halftime lead. Webbers Falls took a 44-40 advantage to the fourth quarter.
For the game, Yandell scored a game-high 19 points and Cole added 16 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Shelby and Hefflin with seven points each and Newcomer and Robinson with two points apiece.
In the boys’ openinground loss to Liberty, the Tigers jumped out to a 16-10 lead after a quarter en route to a 3124 halftime advantage. The Tigers put away the game with a 22-7 third quarter to take a 53-31 lead into the final period.
In defeat, Yandell scored 13 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Robinson with eight points, Shelby, Cole and Hefflin with four points each, Robinson with three points and Trysten Wilbourn and Chandler Cramer with two points apiece.
The Webbers Falls teams got last week going by losing road games Dec. 8 to the Cave Springs squads as the Lady Warriors fell 55-27 and the Warriors lost 58-51.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Hornets stung the Lady Warriors 12-0 in the first quarter to take control of the game. The Lady Hornets had a 29-13 halftime lead en route to a 41-24 advantage at the end of three periods.
In defeat, Allie Patterson led the Lady Warriors with 14 points, followed by Abbie Patterson with five points, Frazier and Ashlynn Black with three points each and Ward with two points.
In the boys’ contest, the Hornets led 17-15 after a quarter, 36-25 at halftime and 51-32 after three periods.
In defeat, Yandell scored a game-high 17 points and Shelby added 15 points to lead the Warriors, followed by Cole and Hefflin with six points each, Robinson with five points and Newcomer with two points.
