MUSKOGEE — Several Gore Pirates high school and junior high wrestlers placed at the Hilldale Invitational, which took place last Friday for high school wrestlers and last Saturday for junior high wrestlers.
Four Gore high school wrestlers placed, including two winning championships — Devon Mannon at 157 pounds and Jaydan Gates at 165 pounds.
Kaydin McCartney was runner-up at 215 pounds, while Cole Brooksher was third at 144 pounds.
As a team, the Pirates were third with 101.5 pounds.
On Saturday, two junior high wrestlers placed as Wyatt Chitty was second at 92 pounds and Beau Moore was fourth at 119 pounds.
The Gore wrestlers will be idle until the District 3A-6 Duals beginning at noon Jan. 22 in Vinita where the Pirates will battle the Roland Rangers and the Vian Wolverines, along with the host Vinita Hornets, the Checotah Wildcats, the Heavener Wolves and the Wilburton Diggers. The team with the best win-loss record will win the district duals and represent the district at the Class 3A Dual State Tournament, which will be Feb. 13-14.
