Vian HS, JH wrestlers place in weekend tournaments

The Vian Wolverines high school wrestling team saw four wrestlers place at the Inola Tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday.

For the Wolverines, Garritt Hunt was the champion at heavyweight, while Axl Branham was third at 175 pounds.

For the Lady Wolverines, Aubrey Gant (110 pounds) and Carmen Rautenberg (130) were fifth.

At the Hilldale Invitational, which took place Friday and Saturday at Hilldale High School in Muskogee, two Vian Lady Wolverines junior high wrestlers won titles — Joely Hunt at 102 pounds and Brinlee Wooten at 110 pounds.

Several Vian JH wrestlers were runners-up — Jestin Rosson (80 pounds), Cain Winans (126) and Leila Cheater (110) — while Lex Branham was third at 170 pounds.

The Vian wrestlers will be idle until a road dual at Poteau beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at Poteau High School’s Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse before going to the Port City Classic in Catoosa this upcoming Friday and Saturday.
