Webbers Falls Warriors win own tournament’s consolation title; Lady Warriors lose third-place game

The Webbers Falls Warriors ended their own Arkansas River Shootout by winning the consolation championship as they defeated the Keota Lions 33-30 on Saturday afternoon on Coach Jerry Ward Court at Webbers Falls Event Center.

The Warriors, who opened Thursday with a 64-42 loss to the Dewar Dragons in the opening round, reached the consolation title game with a 38-28 win over the Clayton Bulldogs on Friday.

The Lady Warriors opened the tournament with a 41-31 win over Clayton on Thursday, but ended up losing their final two games — 63-18 to eventual tournament champion Whitesboro in Friday night’s championship semifinals and 63-44 to Dewar in Saturday afternoon’s thirdplace game.

In the boys’ consolation finals, the Warriors (5-7) rallied from an 11-7 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lions 26-19 over the final three periods.

For the game, Thadan Yandell scored a gamehigh 11 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Chevy Cole with nine points, Cason Newcomer with five points, Gunner Shelby and Brutus Robinson with three points each and Ei Hefflin with two points.

In the boys’ consolation semifinals, the Warriors once had a slow beginning, trailing the Bulldogs 10-7 after a quarter, but they outscored the ’Dogs 31-18 over the final three quarters to get the comeback victory.

For the game, Yandell scored 12 points and Shelby added 11 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Hefflin with five points, Newcomer and Robinson with four points each and Cole with two points.

In the boys’ openinground loss to Dewar, the Dragons raced out to a 16-4 lead with 3:48 left in the first quarter en route to a 19-8 advantage after the first eight minutes. An 11-8 second period for Dewar gave the Dragons a 30-16 halftime lead, which became a 48-31 advantage after three quarters.

In defeat, Yandell scored 12 points and Cole added 11 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Robinson with nine points, Shelby with five points, Newcomer with four points and Chandler Cramer with a free throw.

In the girls’ third-place game, the Lady Dragons rallied from a 12-9 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Warriors 23-16 in the second period to take a 32-28 halftime lead. Dewar outscored Webbers Falls 3116 in the second half to win going away.

In defeat, Allie Patterson scored 22 points to lead the Lady Warriors (5-6), followed by Abbie Patterson with 12 points, Madison Smith with five points, Audri Spears with three points and Bailey Ward with two points.

In the girls’ win over Clayton, the Lady Warriors had a double-digit lead in the second half, only to see the Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 36-31 in the final period. However, the Lady Warriors blanked the Lady Bulldogs 5-0 the rest of the way.

For the game, Allie Patterson scored a gamehigh 16 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Smith with eight points, Spears with five points, Hailey Shanks with four points, Peyton Shanks, Abbie Patterson and Paizley Turley with two points each and Ward and Katie Frazier with a free throw apiece.

In the girls’ championship semifinals loss to Whitesboro, the Lady Bulldogs doubled the Lady Warriors 14-7 in the first quarter, then used a 14-3 second period to take a 28-10 halftime lead, which became a 4518 advantage after three quarters. Whitesboro blanked Webbers Falls 18-0 in the final period.

In defeat, Smith led Webbers Falls with eight points, followed by Allie Patterson with four points, Spears with three points, Ward with two points and Frazier with a free throw.
