Construction begins on annex

Dirtwork got underway last week for the site of the new Sequoyah County Courthouse Annex, at the southeast corner of Chickasaw Avenue and Elm Street in Sallisaw. It was almost 14 months ago that the former Agent Funeral Home was demolished to make room for the new annex, which will cover about 10,000 square feet at a cost expected to be in excess of $2 million. The majority of construction costs will be paid by the county’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, which must be spent by Dec. 31, 2026.
