Gore Pirates wrestling team third at District 3A-6 Duals

VINITA — The Gore Pirates wrestling team finished third at last Thursday’s District 3A-6 Duals, where they were hoping to be district champions and earn a trip to the Class 3A Dual State Tournament on Feb. 14 at Tulsa Union High School.

The Pirates (7-2) defeated Vian (42-41 score), Heavener (43-42), Wilburton (60-18) and Checotah (54-24), but they suffered their first dual losses of the season as they lost 60-18 to Berryhill and 48-23 to host Vinita.

The Pirates were slated to have competed in last weekend’s Paul Post Tournament at Sallisaw High School’s Paul Post Field House, but last weekend’s winter storm canceled the event.

The Pirates will next compete at the Maverick Conference Tournament, which will be this Friday and Saturday in Wilburton.
