Life is rarely quiet at Kelsei Kennedy’s home, and that’s just the way she likes it.
Kennedy, 34, of Lake Tenkiller, balances a full-time career with Progressive Auto Insurance and the nonstop rhythm of raising four children, caring for a small menagerie of pets and keeping up with what she laughingly admits is an ever-growing flock of chickens.
“I’ve lost track of the amount of chickens I have, but there are lots of chickens,” Kennedy said with a laugh. “Of course, we do enjoy the fresh eggs.”
A 2009 graduate of Vian High School, Kennedy now works in customer relationship management for Progressive, helping clients navigate their insurance needs. While her job keeps her busy during the day, her real work begins when she clocks out.
She is the mother of one daughter, Sophie, and three sons, Cayson, Bryce and Sylas. The family also includes four dogs — Russ, Lotti, Libby and Hank — and two cats, Milo and Kasey.
“And don’t forget the chickens,” she added.
Between the kids, the animals and everyday life, Kennedy says she doesn’t have much time for traditional hobbies.
“Nothing too interesting,” she said. “Between the kids and animals, they keep me pretty busy, stressed and entertained.”
Despite describing herself as “such an introvert,” Kennedy is rarely alone. She and her partner, Shawn, spend most of their time together wrangling kids, chasing animals and cheering on school and extracur-ricular activities.
“We enjoy spending time with the kids and doing their school and other activities, chasing the animals and living family life,” she said.
Family and close friendships are at the heart of Kennedy’s world. She treasures the time she gets to spend with relatives and a small circle of friends who have become more like family over the years.
“I enjoy hanging out and spending time with my close family and a couple of friends that have became more like family, over time,” she said.
Two of those friendships stand out in particular.
“Bobbie Bolin is my very best friend of almost 30 years and Chantell Johnson, a friend of 10 years or so,” Kennedy said. “They are more like sisters to me. People I can count on.”
In a world that often feels rushed and complicated, Kennedy finds fulfillment in simple things — shared meals, fresh eggs from the coop, children’s laughter and the comfort of lifelong friendships.
Her life may be hectic, but it is full.
And for Kennedy, that’s exactly what makes it beautiful.
