History was made last Wednesday as the Gore Lady Pirates powerlifting team participated in its first-ever meet as they competed at the Checotah Invitational.
While none of the Gore trio placed, they still had good days.
Douglass hit personal bests (personal records, PRs) in the squat and deadlift, while Bruce and Randolph each had PRs in the deadlift.
The Pirates saw their first powerlifting action of the season as they competed at the Okemah Panther Invitational, which took place last Friday.
In the high school portion of the meet, Devon Mannon was runner-up at 157 pounds after lifting a total of 1,025 pounds, Marcus Scott was third at 220 pounds with 1,080 pounds lifted and Maden Smith was fifth at heaveight with 1,040 pounds lifted.
In the junior high boys portion of Friday’s meet, Jaxon Denton was fourth at 220 pounds as he lifted 845 total pounds.
Also in the JH division, Dakota Houser-Marsh was third (870 pounds total lifted) and Isaac Smith was fourth (260) at 275 pounds.
The Gore powerlifters will be idle until the Iron Hog Classic, which will be at 9 a.m. next Wednesday for the Lady Pirates and 9 a.m. Feb. 20.
