Vian Wrestling Club member Daxton Stewart finished state runner- up at 92 pounds in the sixth-seventh grade division at the 2026 Oklahoma Junior High State Wrestling Tournament, which took place last Friday and Saturday at OG&E Pavilion, a.k.a. “The New Big House,” in Oklahoma City.
On Jan 30-31, Vian had several high school and junior high wrestlers do well at the 2026 Maverick Conference Tournament in Fort Gibson, including two wrestlers winning conference titles.
In the high school girls division, Maddison Turman was the conference champion at 120 pounds, while Joely Hunt took gold at 102 pounds in the JH girls division.
The Vian Wolverines were 11th in the Maverick Conference Tournament with 42 points, with one placer as Garritt Hunt was third at heavyweight.
Lady Wolverines high school wrestler Carmen Rautenberg was third at 130 pounds.
In the junior high division at the Maverick Conference Tournament, Brinlee Wooten was conference runnerup at 110 pounds in the JH girls division, while Jestin Rosson also was a conference runner-up at 80 pounds in the JH boys division.
The Wolverines’ and Lady Wolverines’ home dual with Dewar on Feb. 3 at B.J. Traw Gymnasium was canceled.
The Vian wrestlers will celebrate Senior Night with a 6 p.m. Thursday home dual against Stilwell. Senior Night festivities will begin approximately 5:15 p.m.
