The Vian Wolverines will begin the 2026 baseball season with the home opener at 4:30 p.m. Friday against Eufaula.
The Wolverines were 31-8 last season and got to the Class 2A-I Regional Tournament finals before losing to Oktaha.
The Wolverines return seven players from that team, with four of them seniors — catcher Draighton Fletcher (.352 hitting average last season), second baseman/pitcher Michael Polecat (.345), shortstop/ pitcher Riley Ellis (.333) and designated hitter Drake Collins (.298).
The rest of the returning players are sophomores — outfielder/ pitcher Jeremiah Marshall (.349 batting average in 2025), third baseman/pitcher Manny Terrill (.349) and infielder Chris Cheater (.207).
Three sophomores — outfielders Coleton Smith and Clayton Thomas along with infielder Rylan Lane — and freshman first baseman/pitcher Zaden Cheater are going to be counted upon to make contributions this spring.
“We return a lot of our production off last year’s team,” Vian baseball coach John Brockman said. “we have a chance to be a very competitive team.”
