OKLAHOMA CITY — Three Vian High School wrestlers ended their seasons at last weekend’s state tournaments, which took place last Thursday through Saturday at O.G.&E. Pavilion, a.k.a. “The ‘New’ Big House.”
Unfortunately, none of the three wrestlers placed.
In the Class 3A State Tournament, Vian senior heavyweight Garritt Hunt pinned Anadarko’s Jasiah Raines in 5:14 in his state quarterfinal match before losing his next two matches to Marlow’s Clete Gilbert 5-0 in the state semifinals and to Geary’s Derrick Pratt by pinfall in 54 seconds.
Adoff Stahl, Vian’s 138-pounder, lost his “wrestle-in” match to Norman Community Christian’s Nolan Cochell by pinfall in 3:11 on Thursday.
Sequoyah County’s lone girls state qualifier, Vian 120-pounder Maddison Turman, went 1-2 in the Class 5A State Tournament, with her lone win coming in the state quarterfinals when she pinned Little Axe’s Brylee Mullican in 1:34. Turman then lost her next two matches — a 16-2 major decision loss to McLoud’s Launa Troutt in the championship semifinals and was pinned by Tuttle’s Liz McLeroy in 3:26 in the consolation semifinals.
