Construction workers with Kiewit work beneath a gantry crane to install new torque shafts that were previously supported by the U.S. Highway 100 bridge near Gore, on Feb. 10. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is replacing the bridge, which is connected to Tenkiller Dam and spans the spillway. The existing structure is being removed completely and replaced with a new concrete bridge, and the work is happening over an active spillway while the dam continues to provide flood risk reduction and hydropower. According to the Corp, projects of this size take time because safety, engineering and long-term reliability matter.
