Last week on the baseball diamond got off to a good start for the Gore Pirates as they got a 6-2 road win over Weleetka on March 9, followed by home victory over Keota by a 12-0 three-inning win on March 10.
The lone loss for the week came in the Dewar Dragon Festival as they fell 10-2 in five innings to the host Dragons last Saturday.
Gore’s game last Thursday against Vian in the Dewar Festival ended up being postponed due to two Wolverines players while on defense colliding going for the same ball in the first inning. Vian coach John Brockman said one of the two players is OK, but the other player suffered an fractured orbital bone and will find out this week if surgery is needed to repair the injury.
In the win over Weleetka, the Pirates (2-1) won their season opener, thanks to a lateinning rally.
The Pirates, who trailed 2-0 after two innings, scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game, then scored four runs in the seventh innings to complete the comeback.
For the game, Cruz Ward was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run batted in and a run scored for Gore.
Gage Dame (1-0) got the win in relief, going 2.1 innings with five strikeouts. Jesse Reeves got his first save as he went the final 1.1 innings of shutout baseball. James Brasuell got the start and went 3.1 innings with seven Ks.
In the victory over Keota, pitchers Dane Gates and Tate Brooksher combined on a two-hitter.
Brooksher (1-0) got the win in relief as he went the final 2.1 innings with six strikeouts. Gates got the start and got the first two outs of the game by strikeout.
The Pirates put away the game early with a six-run first inning. A four-run second inning and a two-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.
For the contest, Brasuell was 3-for-3 with three doubles, four runs batted in and two runs scored, Brooksher was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, Kason Short was 2-for-2, Eli Munson doubled with two RBIs and Dame doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Gore.
In the loss to Dewar, the Pirates took a 2-0 lead, but from there it was all Dragons as they scored four runs in the first inning and two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to put the game into run-rule status.
In defeat, Kyler Mc-Gee was 2-for-2, while Dame hit his first home run of the season with two RBIs for Gore.
