It was a rough week on the softball diamond for the Vian Lady Wolverines as they lost four games, with a fifth rained out.
On April 13, the Lady Wolverines lost games a road three-way at Gore with Keota as the Lady Pirates beat them 9-1 in six innings right after the Lady Lions blanked them 12-0 in four innings.
On April 14, the Lady Wolveriners lost both games of that road three-way, falling to Tahlequah 12-0 in six inning and losing 8-1 to host Stilwell.
Last Thursday’s road game at Fort Gibson was rained out.
In the loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates scored once in the second inning, four runs in the fourth inning and arun in the fifth for a 6-0 lead. After the Lady Wolverines (8-15) scored once in the sixth inning, the Lady Pirates put the game into run-rule status with a three-run sixth inning.
In defeat, Halli Russell, Rayleigh Terrill, Katie Reason and Jordyn Cowett all singled for Vian. Terrill (8-15) took the loss.
In the loss to Keota, Keota pitcher Danielle Drummonds tossed a four-inning one-hitter, with that hit being Eden Girty’s single.
Terrill suffered the loss.
In the loss to Tahlequah, the Lady Tigers, ranked No. 12 in Class 6A, scored three runs in the first and fourth innings and once in the fifth inning for a 7-0 lead. A five-run sixth-inning put the game into run-rule status.
The Lady Wolverines only amassed four hits as Russell doubled, and Reason, Tressa Sandlin and Scarlett Fields all singled. Rayleigh Terrill took the loss.
In the loss to Stilwell, the Lady Indians scored four runs in the first inning and twice in the second inning for a 6-0 lead to put away the game early.
In defeat, Kaidence Roark was 2-for-2, Aubree Craighead singled with a run batted in, Leila Cheater singled and scored the only run and Fields and Raylan McEver each singled for Vian. Terrill suffered the loss.
After ending the regular season with a home three-way against Cameron and Panama on Monday at Armstrong Park, the Lady Wolverines will begin the playoffs by playing in the Class 4A District Tournament at Warner with Beggs on Thursday. Vian and Beggs will play at 11 a.m., with the loser meeting Warner at 12:15 p.m. The Vian-Beggs winner then will meet Warner at 1:30 p.m. if there are only two teams remaining after the 1:30 p.m. game, the team with one loss will meet the team with no losses for the district title at 2:45 p.m. The if-game will be at 4 p.m.
If all three teams are at 1-1 on the day after three games, then the 2:45 p.m. game will be Vian vs. Beggs, with the winner playing Warner at 4 p.m. for the district champion.
Only the district champion will advance to next week’s Class 4A Regional Tournament.
