Akins – Funeral services for James “Hog” Nelson, 78, of Akins, were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Muldrow. Burial followed at Seabolt Cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mr. Nelson was born on Oct. 17, 1945, in Nicut, to Sarah Luella (Walters) Nelson and George Dallas Nelson. He died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, in Muldrow.
He was married to Anne Falleur on Nov. 17, 1995, in Fayetteville, Ark.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from the Cherokee Nation Housing Authority.
He was a founding member of the Muldrow Quarterback Club, loved to hunt and fish, served on the Rural Water District 7 Board, and was a Cookson Hills Electric Coop Board Member.
Survivors are his wife, Anne Nelson of the home; two sons, Chris Nelson and Toka of Sallisaw and Blake Nelson and Ruth of Camden Point, Mo.; one step-daughter, Sara Poindexter and Austin of Sallisaw; one step-son, Josh Randolph and Lacey Allen of Sallisaw; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; father-in-law, Joe Falleur; and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters, Dallas Nelson, Jr., Maxine Brown, Aileen Jones, Nina Brown, Virginia Aronson, Ramona Sims, Jerrene Hoskinson, Bill Nelson and Melvin Nelson; mother-in-law, Gerry Falleur; brother-in-law, Keith Falleur; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Chris Nelson, Blake Nelson, Dallas Jones, Jr., Creed Nelson, Michael Hoskinson, Dallas Nelson, Jr., Austin Poindexter, Braden Hoskinson and Pride Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were The Old Man’s Group, Monday Night Choir Practice Group, Jim Hyles, Jimmy Dale Rogers, Roger Sharp, James Osborne, Junior Edwards, Joe Pat Falleur, Mark Falleur, Bill Falleur, Phillip Falleur, Terry Nichols and Roger Smith.
