Gore baseball team defeats Gans, splits with Porter Consolidated
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

Friday’s Webbers Falls home game canceled due to regional powerlifting meet

The Gore Pirates baseball team enjoyed a 2-1 week last week as they ended the week with a 14-2 win over Gans on Thursday afternoon after splitting with Porter Consolidated — winning 13-5 on March 5 at home after losing 12-4 on March 4 in Porter.

Friday’s Webbers Falls home game was canceled due to the regional powerlifting meet that day in Hartshorne.

In Thursday’s home win over Gans, the Pirates (2-2) got out to a 6-0 lead after an inning. After the Grizzlies cut the deficit to 6-2 after two innings, the Pirates put the game into runrule status with an eightrun third inning.

For the game, James Brasuel was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Hunter McGee was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and two runs scored and Waylon Gilley doubled with two runs scored and an RBI for Gore.

Tate Brooksher (10) got his first win of the season, pitching all three innings with eight strikeouts and throwing a three-hitter.

In the March 4 road loss to Porter Consolidated in a battle of Pirates, Porter Consolidated broke a 2-all tie with a six run fourth inning for an 8-2 lead. Gore cut the deficit to 8-4 in the fifth inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Brooksher was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Hunter Mc-Gee was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in, Brasuel doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Dayton Smith doubled and scored once for Gore.

Hunter McGee (0-1) took the loss in relief, going 1.2 innings with four strikeouts. Brasuel went the first three innings with seven Ks. Clayton White went the final 1.1 innings.

In the March 5 home win over Porter Consolidated, Gore won its first game of the 2024 baseball season. After Porter Consolidated broke a scoreless tie with a fiverun fourth inning, Gore erupted for a single run in the fourth inning, eight runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Keeton Rowe was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Brasuel doubled with two runs scored and an RBI. Brooksher, Hunter McGee and Kyler McGee all singled with Kyler McGee recording an RBI along with Smith getting an RBI and Keiden Denton getting two RBIs.

Smith (1-1) got his first win of the season, going the first five innings with eight strikeouts. Brooksher got the final two outs of the game, one of which came by strikeout.

After the Pirates welcomed Tulsa Regent Prep to town on Monday and Keota to town on Tuesday, they will play in the Dewar Festival, which will run Thursday through Saturday. On the following Monday, the Pirates will entertain the Porum Panthers at 1 p.m., then travel the following day for a road three-way with McCurtain at Muldrow beginning at noon next Tuesday.
