A Gore man is scheduled for an arraignment in Sequoyah County District Court after failing to comply with his sex offender registration.
An arrest warrant was issued for Kathan L. Griffith, 30, on July 9 and he received a $5,000 bond. He is to have no contact with the alleged victim as a condition of his bond, according to court documents.
Autumn Reed with the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a letter from the state informing her that Griffith was out of compliance and a letter had been sent to him on May 1.
Reed learned that Griffith had not registered since January and is a Level 3 aggravated sex offender, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case. He is supposed to register every three months and paperwork showed he last came in to the office on April 10.
After making contact with Griffith by phone, he told Reed he had held onto his letter for a month. However, offenders only have 10 days to check in with the letter, according to the affidavit.
If found guilty of the charge, he could face incarceration in a correctional facility for not more than five years and a fine not to exceed $5,000, or both imprisonment and fine.
