Gore Lady Pirates rally past Gans, fall to Vian, Roland
By SPORTS EDITOR

Last week started off well for the Gore Lady Pirates softball team, but it didn’t end that way.

After rallying for a 9-8 walk-off win over the Gans Lady Grizzlies at home Aug. 26, the visiting Vian Lady Wolverines clawed them 21-5 on Aug. 27, then the Roland Lady Rangers made them walk the plank at home in a 17-2 victory on Thursday.

In the win over Gans, Lady Pirates were able to score late to rally past the Gans Lady Grizzlies for a 9-8 victory Monday afternoon in Gore.

The Lady Pirates (43), who trailed 8-7 after a two-run fifth inning by the Lady Grizzlies, snatched away the win as Hallie Brewer hit a game-tying RBI double and Ricki Huckbay got the game-winning RBI as she was hit by a pitch with two outs to score Brewer from third base.

For the game, Brewer was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored, while Emily Daily doubled for Gore.

Cheyenne Davidson (4-3) got the win, recording 12 strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

In the loss to Vian, A three-run opening inning put the Lady Wolverines up 3-0, which became a 9-0 lead by the fourth inning.

The Lady Pirates scored twice in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 9-2 and a three-run fifth inning trimmed Vian’s lead to 10-5, but that was as close as Gore got.

The Lady Wolverines put the game into runrule status with an 11run sixth inning.

In defeat, Daily was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, River Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Peyton Curran was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Maddison Douglass doubled and scored once and Huckbay doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Gore.

Davidson suffered the loss, despite having 10 Ks in six innings.

In the loss to Roland, after the Lady Pirates took a 2-1 lead after an inning, the Lady Rangers scored four runs in the second inning and a run in the third inning for a 6-2 lead after three innings. An 11run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Curran doubled, Davidson singled with an RBI and Huckbay singled and scored for Gore.

Davidson suffered the loss, lasting just more than an inning before Keira Rowe went the rest of the way with two strikeouts in three-innings plus.
