Dear Editor,

As this 2024 comes to a close, here is a glimpse into what Vian’s future looks like to us.

Through chaos and tragedy, we have learned comes unity and teamwork, perseverance and respect, hard work and determination.

Over this last year, we have seen law enforcement agencies unite, we have seen different entities congeal between fire departments, medical services, and state and federal agencies.

These strides moving forward to better serve the citizens of Vian is not attributed to one person, but rather a totality of working moving parts. From a town administrator that cares about each department as much as he does the town as a whole. A council that only wants the best for Vian and its citizens, new upcoming businesses locking in on the rich history and making Vian home. A fire department that is the best in the state. Town employees from the city offices to the guys in the trenches, mowers, and trash trucks serving with such great pride. Students and student athletes becoming National champions in FFA, state runner ups in football, and excelling in baseball and wrestling, a cheer team that went to state championships, and a high school band and choir second to none.

These are just a few reasons why we try so hard to excel at Vian Police Department; we are just trying to keep up with the highest of standards set by so many great people of this community. We look forward to serving each of you in 2025 and doing so with even higher expectations and standards for ourselves in hopes of making each of you proud for us to wear the uniform that represents who you are.

Thank you each for your support in 2024 and excitement for 2025.

Vian Police Department Chief Mark Harkins
