TAHLEQUAH — The Vian Wolverines football team got its first taste of “Friday Night Lights” with their first scrimmage of the preseason, which took place Friday night against the host Sequoyah-Tahlequah Indians, the Roland Rangers and the Tulsa Holland Hall Dutch.
The Wolverines scored a total of five touchdowns, with four of them coming in the simulated quarter against the Dutch. Both Masyn Wright and Ledger Folsom each rushed for two touchdowns.
The fifth TD came in the Wolverines’ scrimmage against the host Indians as Cash Trammel connected with Folsom.
“We played decently well for a first scrimmage,” Vian coach Gary Willis said. “There was some sloppiness, but overall it wasn’t a bad first scrimmage.”
Friday night’s scrimmage did show some areas of concern for Willis that will need to be address in the Wolverines’ final preseason scrimmage at 6 p.m. Thursday against the host Muldrow Bulldogs and the Panama Razorbacks at Muldrow’s Marty Rogers Field.
“They were mostly mental mistakes,” Willis said. “The effort was good. We had just a few blown assignments.”
Willis said the Wolverines will stay basic on offense for Thursday night’s scrimmage.
